So, Labor Day weekend has officially started in most of the USA. Although it's technically a day to honor the working class people, it's most often seen as the unofficial end to summer. People throw one last big cookout or party. Speaking of, any of my readers going to invite me? lol. Anyway.....
This will mostly be a recipe post. For more recipes (and some decor ideas that could be interchangeable), please check out my "Memorial Day" and "Independence Day" posts.
Though it IS a bit last minute, it never hurts to create some affordable crafts to decorate your home, yard, etc. Here's a list with a bunch of idea-sites. And here are 12 more ideas.
To keep everyone entertained, here are some DIY lawn games. And here are some simple backyard activities.
On to the food. The main focus is on the grill. A wide variety of foods can be grilled. And most people immediately think of their favourite meat. But let's not overlook those of us who choose not to eat meat (and hey, it IS "Meatless Monday"....). There are plenty of veggie "burgers" and "dogs" out there. But there's so much more to grill. Try any of these 17 grill recipes (ranging from mushrooms to corn to pizza!). And One Green Planet has a bunch of grillable recipes, ranging from mushrooms and kebabs to sandwiches to homemade Vegan "sausages" and "hotdogs".
Here's a list of mains and sides that are Vegetarian (some Vegan). And here are two Vegan menus (one simple and the other very elaborate).
On to sides. Try out these 5 simple sides (none of which call for meat), including the ever-present potato salad. And if you prefer pasta salad, there are 8 of them (all Vegetarian, some Vegan) here. But maybe a mayo-rich macaroni salad is more your speed? Vegans who want a macaroni salad, check this one out! Mac and cheese fan? Try this "skinny" baked macaroni and cheese. And Vegans, here are 5 Vegan recipes for mac & cheeze! Here's an easy cole slaw (Vegans, use non-dairy mayo [I like Just Mayo] and milk). Never fear, Vegetarian Baked Beans are here!
Although beer and sodapop (keep them cool without making a mess by filling red, white, and blue balloons with water and freezing them to use in place of ice cubes in the coolers), sweet tea and lemonade, etc are the drinks most people think of when it comes to Labor day....23 Cocktails for Labor Day. For those who don't drink, you could always try one of these yummy Mocktails!
And on that note, I'm off to enjoy the weekend (and by "enjoy" I mean spend time with my animal babies and watch horror movies, lol). Happy Labor Day, all. And keep an eye out for my next entry, a product review.
