Firstly, let me say that I'm rather sensitive to scents. I have to be VERY picky with laundry and cleaning products, perfumes, shampoos, etc. Many will give me headaches, make me feel nauseated, or trigger an asthma attack. So the fact that this detergent is unscented is terrific.
Also, every detergent I've tried leaves my skin itchy to some degree. And many will cause rashes or bumps to form.
So, how did Seventh Generation's Free & Clear laundry detergent do? Well, I used one packet on a load of mixed clothes. And used my regular fabric softener with it (in small amounts, like always [one of the few brands whose scent doesn't bother me as long as I don't use a lot]). The clothes came out clean. My skin hasn't broken out from wearing them, nor does it itch much (it IS winter, some itch is to be expected, lol).
Another load, I did something I would normally not do...I had about half a load of towels and half a load of socks (one pair of which had been worn when snow got into my shoes and melted there....not pleasant). I don't use fabric softener in towels. The load came out smelling like cotton and nothing more (yes, even those socks)!
In summation: It cleans well, doesn't leave any lingering scent, works well with the softener I used, and didn't cause my skin to itch or break out. It lives up to my expectations.
Until next time....
