St. Patrick's Day is almost here. I posted about this holiday twice so far:
St. Patrick's Day (recipes) and St. Pat's Part II (crafts), but I wanted to share a few new links and ideas I've found.
First, how about a Full Irish Breakfast? Traditionally, it has bacon (I mention Veg*n "bacon" later in this post), sausages (Vegetarian include Morningstar Farms, and Quorn. Vegan include Amy's, Field Roast, and Tofurky), eggs (Vegan versions here), soda bread or Boxty (here's a Vegan version), and MAY include baked beans (several brands have Vegetarian baked beans), black pudding (Vegetarian) and/or white pudding (Vegetarian), fried tomatoes, and/or cooked mushrooms.
If you're looking for Corned beef (and who isn't?) There's this recipe for Vegan “Corned beef”, which I have made (using the rosemary substitution in place of juniper berries, because who has juniper berries? lol). I really liked it, though I plan to make some tweaks this year to see if I can make it even better. Also, here's a NEW recipe for "VEGAN CORNED BEEF REUBEN WITH RUSSIAN DRESSING"! I haven't tried this one, but this "Corned beef" recipe is highly recommended in a seitan group I am in. Also, here's a super easy mock "Corned beef hash", using Beyond Burgers. What if you can't eat gluten, and the Beyond Burger isn't available in your area yet? Well, you can try this Corned Jackfruit, just remember to start it 24 hours in advance!
It has recently come to my attention that while we in the USA think of Corned beef and cabbage, it's more traditional in Ireland to have bacon and cabbage. So here's a recipe for a Vegan version. For Vegetarian "bacon", there is Morningstar Farms. Vegan brands include Sweet Earth (which I don't care for, personally), Lightlife, and Uptons Naturals (I haven't tried this one).
Shepherd's Pie is also traditional fare. Here's a Vegan recipe using either lentils or "beef" crumbles (I've made this using Beyond Meat crumbles, though Morningstar Farms or your favourite brand will do).
In my first St. Pat's post, I shared a (mushroom based) Irish Stew. Well, I've found another that looks like it may even have a deeper flavour!
I also shared a link to some Irish Soda Bread recipes, but what if you are cooking for one or two? Try these delicious Mini Irish Soda Breads for Two.
Colcannon is a traditional side dish. Try this one if you're Vegan.
Barmbrack is an Irish cake. Here's a Vegan version.
Here are 30 VEGAN ST PATRICK’S DAY RECIPES - including mains, sides, a Vegan Shamrock Shake, homemade Vegan Bailey's, and desserts. Though many don't seem very traditional.
Again, don't forget to check out my first St Pat's blog post for more recipes, including more Corned "beef" recipes (even a "quick Corned beef" for my meat-eating readers), desserts, and beverages (including a Shamrock Shake copycat)!
Also coming up is Ostara and Easter. First, please check out Some Spring Festivals.
Last time, I focused more on Easter (and a bit on Purim, Holi, and Passover). So, here are a couple Vegetarian Ostara recipes. An Ostara Souffle (not sure HOW you could Veganize that one, unless you used Follow Your Heart VeganEggs [which I've yet to try] and Vegan cheeses/milk). Here's an extensive list of recipes and food-gift ideas that are all Vegan! These aren't all Veg*n, but (except the lamb) could easily be subbed...a Veg*n "chicken" broth here, some non-dairy milk there, egg replacers, etc. And I DID include a seitan "lamb" recipe in my earlier post.
A few ideas for decorating for Ostara (could work for those who celebrate Easter [or both!] too).
As mentioned, my Some Spring Festivals post had a LOT of Easter recipes (ranging from eggs and vegan eggs, "lamb" and "ham" recipes, sides, to desserts). It also includes a list of Veg-friendly Easter candy (including some to make yourself) AND crafts (including options for decorating eggs...even if you're Vegan!). So, check it out!
I'd also like to mention a new-ish item. Tofurky now has a Vegan Ham! I haven't been able to get my hands on it, so I can't say how it tastes. But if you don't want to make your own, it's one option (others include the "Cheerful Ham" and THIS).
And finally, I'd like to end this post with 80 Vegetarian Easter Recipes Everyone Will Love.
I hope you enjoyed this post. Until next time....
