As mentioned in my post "Some products I'd like to review", I had planned to review The Jackfruit Company's BBQ Jackfruit, but discovered the package had sat in my fridge past the "best by" date. When I contacted them to ask how long past the date it was good (it's not on StillTasty or EatByDate), they offered to send coupons! Please keep in mind that each review was written separately (immediately after eating, so my impressions were fresh) and so the entry might be a bit choppy. Well, here's the review I know you've been anxiously awaiting....

I apologize for my absence. I've been dealing with the loss of one of my animal babies, plus some health issues of my own. And, let's face it, I'm pretty lousy at posting regularly. lmao. I DO try though! Okay, so I know I promised a review of Jackfruit in a review post a while back. I'm still working on that. I've tried two of the four flavours, and want to try a third before I post the review. Sorry it's taking longer than planned. :-( Meanwhile, I wanted to talk about samples I've gotten to try. I'll start with the Exactly box. All this came in ONE box! Aussie Mega hairspray Forto Coffee 2x energy shot Tcho Whoosh screen shine wipe Celestial Seasonings Sleepy Time tea Cascade Platinum dishwasher pack Early Bird Books The site also says I was sent a few things that weren't in the box. A card for Ting Mobile, a discount for ThirdLove (lingerie), and Now & Later Shell Shocked Fruit Chews. Allow me to briefly review each item I received, if I may.....
I promise, there IS a review coming soon. In the meanwhile, I wanted to share this....
You can win a free one year supply of High Stick vodka (and a stick signed by von Barrette, whoever that is) by entering here! I became aware of this giveaway through ToastyEgg.com (you can sign up for emails about various giveaways). A little more than two years ago, I posted my "Work from home" blog entry. At that time, I recommended InboxDollars as a viable option based on experience from a few years prior. I am truly sorry to anyone who signed up with them because of that entry. If you haven't signed up through them, I advise you not to. I cannot go into too many details, as I have a complaint filed with the Better Business Bureau, but InboxDollars' behaviour over the last almost-two months has been very shady (especially with regard to payout). Again, I'm so very sorry for anyone else dealing with this company.
On the up side, expect a new entry from me fairly soon (a review of products from The Jackfruit Company)! This post is going to be a bit different. Firstly, I'd like to say that (unlike most of my reviews), I didn't get these items to try for free. I DID use coupons to save a bit where I could. Not that THAT really matters, since I always try to give my honest opinions.
Secondly, I had one more product to review, but discovered the package had sat in my fridge past the "best by" date. When I contacted The Jackfruit Company to ask how long past the date it was good (it's not on StillTasty or EatByDate), they offered to send coupons. Unfortunately, the one I planned to try (BBQ Jackfruit) was sold out when I went to Whole Foods Co-Op the other day. So that review will have to wait, sorry. Finally, I have photos to include. They were taken over time (which is also how these reviews were written), and in a couple cases, the packaging was open. Also, the colours are a bit wonky, as my cell doesn't take the best photos (and my digital camera needs new rechargeable batteries). But I hope it helps! People have asked me for information on Veg*n products - recommendations for what tastes good and doesn't, what the "best" is, etc. I've decided to cover some things I've tried recently, in hopes that it will help you save money (after all, knowing what products are worth it and what aren't will keep you from wasting money on uneaten food). If you find this information useful, please feel free to let me know, and I'll gladly do more posts like this (or maybe one discussing Veg products by type?). Anyway.... I have something pretty big planned for a couple days from now. But wanted to share these really quick.

You can enter here! My dear faithful readers, I'm so sorry it's been so long since I posted. All I can say is that I have some ideas planned, but haven't had a chance to work on them. "The best laid plans", they say....
Anyway, I just want to make a quick post. I know a lot of people are excited for Sunday's Super Bowl. If you don't have cable, here's a great article on the many ways you can watch it for free (some do assume you have a Roku or Xbox, others are online or over-the-air). It mentions Fox Sports Go specifically, so here's a direct link. Regarding food: A couple years back, I shared a few links for game day eats. Unfortunately, only one of those links appears to still be active - 50 Vegan recipes from PETA. However, I've found this list of 67(!) Vegetarian recipes, these 20 Vegetarian snacks, 35 more Vegan recipe ideas (some look very yummilicious), one of many Vegetarian chili recipes, cauliflower "wings" 4 ways from PETA, and for those who want wings but dislike cauliflower here are some Buffalo "wings" made from Seitan! Finally, I'll leave you with this recipe for Vegetarian Buffalo "chicken" dip (I usually use half light Ranch dressing and half Bleu cheese dressing, Cheddar Cheese, and omit the "chicken"). Don't worry Vegans, here's a Buffalo dip for you too! So, enjoy a few cold beers (or beverage of your choice), some hot snacks, plenty of good friends, and (if you pay attention) the game! I'm sorry it's been so long since my last post. Life's been hectic. I will try to post more often! I hope my readers are doing well. I have a few things I'd like to share with you.
First off, I'd like to remind those of you with animal companions about PetMountain. Follow that link and provide your email for a 10% discount (up to $10) on their already affordable prices! And I'd also like to re-mention VitaCost. Follow the link and sign up for a 10% discount. Plus they have daily giveaways this month (which is why I mention them again)!!! Okay, on to the few new links I have for y'all. Firstly, I'd like to mention Reader's Legacy. You can earn points for things like favouriting an author, reviewing a book, etc. And then you can use those points to get a FREE book. I've only recently joined, so I'm still learning, but already it's exciting! Here's a list of 25 Apps that pay for various activities. A few of them have been mentioned here previously, because they also have websites. As I don't use a smartphone, I can't vouch for these Apps (except the sites previously mentioned). And though it may not seem to fit with the theme of this blog.... Every now and then, we all fall on hard times. It's especially common during the holiday season. I'd like to recommend Lending Club, should you need a loan. They are quick to make the decision (and to transfer the money), and have reasonable rates. They don't spam your inbox like some of the other places I was considering. And you don't even have to leave your home to apply. I believe that if you follow that link, you get some sort of incentive (but I don't recall offhand what, sorry). That's it for now, but I DO have two new post ideas that I'm working on. Please be patient, between all the holiday get-togethers and personal issues (including ongoing health issues with one of my beloved animals), I'm a bit slow. Until next time.... |
