I wanted to post something really quick for Memorial Day. Though it's officially a day for honoring the soldiers who fought and died in battle, most people here in the USA use it as an excuse to have a three-day party weekend. Food cooked on a grill, plenty of drinks, and you're good to go.
Well, what if you want to add a few festive touches to your home during this time? Here are a few decorating ideas (including a red, white, and blue rice candle holder). Here are a bunch of ideas (for Memorial Day OR Independence Day) from Martha Stewart . And here's a list of 31 Popular Memorial Day Crafts, Decor, and Activities for Kids!
When it comes to cooking out, most people just throw some meat on the grill. But if you (or some of your guests) are Veg*n, you don't have to miss out! Here are 5 Meatless Recipes for the Memorial Day Grill (one is tofu-based, the others are vegetables). And here's a list of Vegetarian and Vegan Barbecue and Grilling Recipes (everything from tofu, seitan and homemade veggie burgers to fancy main dishes to fruit). And if you're looking for sides, check out these 10 Veg*n side dishes. This list has everything from dips to BBQ sliders to parfait, all Vegan! And then there's the archive from One Green Planet. They have TONS of recipes, this is limited to ones they've listed for Memorial Day. Of course, you could just make veggie kebabs, and throw some veggie burgers (or a marinated Portabello mushroom) and veggie dogs on the grill.... It's more about who you're spending time with!
I hope everyone has a Happy Memorial Day Weekend!
Until next time.....
